Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by the mother, her grandmother, and godparents. Her father left her family. While a small child, Ford battled anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder caused by the word association. Ford began to become attracted to acting in her teens, and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted to the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just one month, she decided that it wasn't suitable for her. Ford then applied to be a student at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was accepted on her 4th attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford was able to graduate in 1993. However, she already made a TV appearance on a show in 1992 called Surgical Spirit. She adopted the name Catherine Tate. During the Nineties, Tate could be found on TV in shows like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Apart from her regular theatre work, Tate joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate's stand-up humor that she started adding to her repertoire in the year 1996, was soon gaining her attention.
