Audra McDonald's talents are unrivaled by her variety and breadth as a singer, as well as an actor. In 2004, she was nominated for a fourth Tony Award, starring in A Raisin in the Sun along with Sean Diddy Combs. And in 2012, her five year old daughter took home her first Tony in the category of Lead Actress. she was the main character of The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. She made Broadway history by becoming one of the Tony Awards most decorated performer in her sixth nomination for her performance in Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill the role that was also used as the vehicle for her Olivier Award-nominated 2017 debut performance in the London's West End. Not only did she set a record in the number of honors an actor has won, she was also the first actor to take home all four categories. Her other credits for theater includes The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999) Henry IV (2004) 110 in the Shade (2007) Twelfth Night (2009) the film that was Twelfth Night (2009), which was her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut, the show Shuffle Along or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921, and all That Followed (2016) Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune (2019) and Ohio State Murders (2023). McDonald's first appearance as a dramatic TV actor came with the Peabody Award-winning CBS program Having Our Say, The Delany Sisters' First 100 years. As of 1999, McDonald appeared alongside Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. In addition, she played an occasional role in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in 2000. McDonald won her first Emmy due to her character on The HBO versions of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit directed by Mike Nichols, starring Emma Thompson. In 2003, she made her return to television, this time in Mister Sterling produced by Emmy Award-winning Lawrence O'Donnell Jr., which starred Josh Brolin. She was a part of The Bedford Diaries on the WB show The Bedford Diaries in early in the year. In the next season, she was an NBC television show Kidnapped. In the year 2016, McDonald was nominated for her fourth Emmy Award for her role in HBO's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, a special film. The Bite is a drama featuring six episodes that are based on the spread of a disease, and produced by Spectrum Originals & CBS Studios. McDonald starred alongside Taylor Schilling & Steven Pasquale. She first appeared on the show in the role of U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in 2009 on CBS's legal comedy The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald returned to the character (now named Liz Reddick) as a Season regular on The Good Fight on Paramount+ receiving three Critics Choice Award nominations for her performance. She guest stars in Julian Fellowes's historical drama The Gilded Age.
